Frustration Expert

cropped-20180209_163743.jpgThe Story of IamBe

IamBe was a Greek Goddess,  the daughter of Pan and Echo.

One day, whilst working close to the city of Athens, Iambe met Demeter. Demeter had come down to earth from the heavens, consumed with grief for the loss of her daughter Persephone, who  unknown to her had been kidnapped by Hades in the underworld.  Demeter was not eating,  drinking, talking or smiling and this was also depleting and destroying the surrounding lands. In one account,  Iambe in an act of sisterhood, connects and communicates with Demeter’s head and heart by flashing at her and telling jokes, which shocks Demeter, makes her laugh and transforms her state of grief! Demeter begins to eat, drink and smile again,  which restores balance and harmony to the lands and people around.

Feeling Frustrated?

So why am I writing about this story?  In 2016, I developed a ‘communication, connection & collaboration’ model to create fresh perspective and  possibilities for adults and children. As  a result they experience:

💜improved inner wellbeing
💜more empowering relationships
💜less stress
💜greater clarity and focus
💜more confidence
💜improved self-esteem
💜improved productivity and efficiency
💜fewer power struggles

Play, Poetry & Possibilities

I was searching for a word to  encompass my model.   At one point, as I often do,  I looked up to the sky and requested a word and 3 days later ‘IAmBe’  arrived at Waterloo Station.

Sipping tea and waiting for a grieving friend in a coffee shop called BeNuGo at  London Waterloo,  I considered this name, was it a play on words – be nu go? My Random Dialogues partner and I, AyPee (RIP) had also been reciting a mantra linked to our combined transformational BeSayDoHaveⒸ model:

‘I am who I say I AM
Because what I say I am
That is who I am’ Ⓒ

So in the spaces, I questioned who ‘I am BEing’ and played with these words and created IamBE. Upon Googling it I found out she was the goddess who communicates and connects through Play and Poetry,  perfect and random, this is exactly what a #FrustrationExpert does 😉

Frustration leads to breakthroughs and more empowering changes of state.

NB: To BE Or Not To BE?

‘Iambic’ verse also stems from Iambe’s name and her jokes and playful nature, it was often used by Shakespeare in his plays and sonnets, an example being ‘To Be or not to Be’.

‘I Am that I Am’ the common English translation of the response God used in the Hebrew Bible when Moses asked for his name (Exodus 3:14).

Walk Slowly – Random Notes of Wisdom

In 2014 whilst trekking in the Usembero Mountains in Tanzania, I decided I’d like to explore meditation more, so I said out loud: ‘Dear Universe, I’d like to find a meditation mentor please.’  The next morning I was up really early to go on a dawn chorus/bird spotting walk, in these stunning mountains.

I got chatting to  a lady called Elizabeth from Belize who I’d had a few conversations with back at the huts, and found out she was a Yoga and Meditation teacher. She truly was. She embodied all that was beautiful, peaceful, and kind about the practices and I was very inspired by her.  She gave me direction on where to start and later sent me this poem -.

Laughter, Play and Poetry

I am an IamBic Master Practitioner –  IamBe was the goddess of Laughter, Play and Rhyme,  I’ve written about her before here. My Communication and Connection Model is based on these principles with metaphorical flashing!  For may years I have explored the benefits of  ‘play’ in both little and big people and most mornings I set an intention to be playful and to not sweat the small stuff.

This week, I found a vintage red suitcase in a skip, I’m often on the look out for them,  it was a bit rusty and tired but it was perfect for my random lifestyle.  Inside were a few vintage books including  ‘Indoor & Community Games‘ by Sid G Hedges 1943, an exciting find (do I need to get out more?)

Connection & Communication Through Play

Since the introduction of the PS4 games console in the house, there has been a lot of falling out over fair usage, screen time – ‘it’s so unfair our friends get to play on it all night’ and when they do come off there’s noticeable irritability and stress and this coupled with a hormonal pre-teen. Later today, when my husband returns we are having our weekly family meeting about the best way forward with these frustrations.

The kids and I have been having a lot of fun reading the book and playing some of the simple games. They have relaxed and connection and communication has been restored. They’ve just walked to Sainsburys together too, hopefully they will sustain this friendship on their adventure and not part company in the frozen ailse.

Enjoy these Games

Here are a couple of the simple games we’ve explored and enjoyed –

Giant Sneeze

Split into 3 teams and appoint these 3 names – Hishy, Hashy, Hoshy
Count to 3 and then call out the name assigned to the person or team in unison and loudly to create a giant sneeze!

Laughing Game – Rollicking Fun!

‘Someone of merry disposition is chosen to lead the game and sits in the middle of the room. He tosses up a handkerchief and immediately breaks into a rollicking laugh. Everyone else must laugh too, and the laughing must continue as long as the handkerchief is in the air. But the instant that it touches the floor every face must become stern again, and anyone who shows even the slightest trace of a smile is compelled to drop out of the game. The handkerchief is then thrown up a fresh and the game goes on until all the players have been disqualified’

play

I love this smelly old random book, it’s going to continue to be played with.
